Wallace Appointed USADB Tournament Director

SAN LEANDRO, CA (July 1, 2010) - The Executive Board of United States of America Deaf Basketball (USADB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles R. Wallace as USADB Tournament Director for 2010-2011. Wallace will work closely with PR Director Jax Levesque.
Wallace, who is affectionately known as Chuck, attended The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD) at Mt. Airy Campus in Philadelphia, PA, where he was an outstanding football star, basketball manager, member of the track team.
After graduating from PSAD in 1975, Wallace entered RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) under the (NTID)'s program, in Rochester, NY. He was also the manager for a deaf basketball team under NSC (NTID Student Congress) for two years.
In 1991, Wallace met another famous City of Brotherly Love native, a Philadelphian whom also went to PSD, Art Kruger at the Frederick, MD Softball Tournament. Art Kruger (father and founder of the American Athletic Association of the Deaf) coined Chuck as one of the best statisticians in the nation.
Wallace is a staunch supporter and member of local clubs, such as Central Philadelphia Silent Club, Inc. (CPSC), Silent Athletic Club, Inc. (SAC) of Philadelphia, and New Jersey Deaf Sports, Inc. (NJDS). He got his start in leadership with coaching and managing the Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball teams with the CPSC and SAC from 1981 through 1984, winning the EAAD Softball championships four straight years and attended the AAAD National Softball Tournaments in Hollywood, CA (1983) and in Columbia, MD (1984), placing third.
Wallace got his start in 1980, as a club representative delegate and started in 1987 as EAAD Recorder. He has worked for 15 years in various capacities in the EAAD as Recorder, Sport Commissioner, and Tournament Director. He was elected as EAAD President for the 2001 to 2004 term and again for the 2006 to 2008 term. He has chaired many invitational basketball and softball tournaments as well as District and EAAD Regional Tournaments. Wallace also gives his time with the EAAD, AAAD, NSAD, and USADB. He is has been a softball umpire under the ASA for the past 22 years.
Wallace will coordinate the 2011 USADB national basketball tournament in Bloomington, Minnesota, March 31- April 2, 2010.
Wallace has been employed since 1978 as a graphic arts "printing specialist" with the U.S. government. He has four children, two daughters, Pamela 28, and Stacey 26 from a previous marriage; two sons, BJ 14, Chaz, 6; and also one grandson Raymond, 5. He is married to another active sportsperson, Heidi Schumacher.
The American Athletic Association of the Deaf (AAAD) was established in 1945 in Akron, OH to promote basketball opportunities for deaf athletes. In 1995, restructure of the AAAD led to the formation of USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) with USA Deaf Basketball (USADB) becoming the new national basketball governing body. USADB sponsors and promotes regional and national basketball tournaments for deaf adults each year, the East-West high School All-Stars; and youth and adult teams to the world championships, PanAm Games and Deaflympics.
